The site will always ever be “under construction,” however I have some new updates coming to improve functionality. I’ve moved the server already off of BuyVM to my own hosting, however as of today the new server is a NameCrane shared DirectAdmin account which will tremendously improve site stability. While running my own server on a static IP was a grand idea, I figured for a low yearly cost I can alleviate some of the pain with the process of power outages in Carrick, PA from interfering with website stability versus trying to setup a large UPS to do the same and still have issues. The new server is not very powerful, but it is plenty capable of handling the site with a lot more bandwidth and many other features like better page caching through plugins, search engine optimization plugins, and site plugins that enable features like integration with Google. While I understand some of my comments regarding Google have been negative, it’s worth pointing out that Google is a de-facto standard search engine, and using it reliably is still important to the website. Enabling Google reCaptcha is not really my idea of fun, however I would like to integrate perhaps Google single sign-on (SSO) to make posting comments easier. I really would like feedback on the content I post, so I hope to have a more social experience on the internet soon in a productive way.
Other random things are that I’ve noticed my website doesn’t always include easy to understand content. I post some interesting information, but the main point of the site is to be a blog. However, a search function is missing since I do use this site as “formal” notes even for myself to help prevent headaches. Sites like this feedback into ChatGPT, which often provides misleading or confusing information on things that need more relevant data to “fix AI” (or more like fancy search engines) which hopefully provides something useful to you, the reader.
The filter for index.php in links is removed without modifying the NameCrane template, which is impossible since I don’t think they could easily enable nginx, but perhaps I could work on a plugin or working with NameCrane to do something custom.
Last, I added a cookie notification plugin that NameCrane provides a professional version of (the advantage to using a provider like this), to help improve site compliance in other countries.
Thanks for your support.
By the way, this site runs at entirely my own cost (which is quite low), and while I always keep content legal (like the recording from IIAP in the audio section), there will never be ads, a request for donations, or a copyright on even the images. As a friend once said, I’m flattered if you “steal” my content (although, I respect the fact that people behave themselves), so thank you for reading. That is all I ask.
